Miller Farms became a nursery in 1963 when brothers Don and Dick Miller received their first nursery business license.
Prior to then it was the Miller Farm, an 80-acre family farm which they worked on with their parents Herb and Evelyn.
The original Miller Farm had acres of planted potatoes, raised 12,000 chickens a year and had 150 head of dairy cows.
The potatoes and chickens were phased out in the late 1970's and in the 1980's the Miller's stopped milking cows.
We sold the leftover shrubs at the small nursery which we operated on the farm.

As they go dormant you can dig up hostas, astilbes, yarrow, Shasta daisy, Bee Balm, Lamium and Black Eyed Susan.
Amend the soil with compost and organic fertilizer.
The spring bulbs have started to arrive with more expected by mid-month.
Buying early ensures you will get the best selection, but the soil is still to warm to plant.
We recommend planting no much earlier then mid-October.

During that time, construction design and techniques were somewhat primitive.
A basic design consisted mainly of a lawn with irrigation crafted from galvanized piping with threaded fittings.
Junipers and Rhododendrons were the main choice for planting.
All of this was installed by manual labor and a farm tractor.
As the years passed, new technology, equipment, and theories in design have changed greatly.
Miller Farms has grown with time as well, becoming Humboldt and Del Norte County's leader in client satisfaction and superb craftsmanship from all types of landscapes, fencing, automatic gates, retaining walls and much, much more.
