Hello, I am Kathy Kimbrough, a professional landscape designer for more than 20 years in beautiful western Colorado. We average 10 inches of rain or less annually. If you live in a dry region too, you can benefit from knowing more about water-wise landscaping - or "xeriscape". Xeriscape is strategic landscape planning and plantings that require little watering, used in arid regions.
It is not "zero-scape"! Recently I gave a presentation on successful water-wise landscapes in our high desert climate of Grand Junction. I'm sharing the information with you here. Plants that like lots of sun should be planted together just like those who like it shady or dry. We talked about an integrated approach to xeriscaping and sustainable landscaping practices.
I am partial to these trees as they are growing in my yard and have performed beautifully over the past ten years. Russian hawthorn, Sargent and Indian Summer crabapples, Green Vase Zelkova, Wichita Blue juniper, Hot Wings maple, Bur oak and Ft.

Garden Scentsations is a landscape design business specializing in Rocky Mountain water wise landscap solutions.
I help people become better gardeners through hands on demonstrations and sustainable design.
I started Garden Scentsations in 2006 after seeing a need to help homeowners take control of their own landscapes and gardens.
Since joining the CSU Extension Master Gardener program in 2001, I frequently went on "house calls", visiting homeowners at their request and diagnosing the problems they encountered in their landscape.

We jazzed it up with shrubs and perennials that will bring color and interest all season long.
This home in Montrose needed a complete makeover.
With a color CAD drawing, the homeowner was able to see the complete layout of the yard and where all of the new plants should be placed.
